In the last 46 years, they have created 20 feature films (and counting), in addition to several short films and television commercials.
THE BEGINNINGS OF STUDIO GHIBLI
Takahata and Miyazaki met in the 1960s when they were working for the Japanese animation studio Tôei Dôga. Although they collaborated for more than a decade, it was untilmid 80's They decided to start their own company. In 1985, with funding from the publishing house Tokuma Shoten, Takahata, Miyazaki y Suzuki They founded Studio Ghibli, a small production studio in the suburbs of Tokyo.
The first feature film of this trio, was Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind, a post-apocalyptic fantasy adventure based on a manga of the same name published by Miyazaki. Released under the name Tokuma Shoten, the film was a success and prompted the small team to begin their next production.
WHY IS IT CALLED STUDIO GHIBLI?
The name “Ghibli”refers to the Italian word "For the hot wind of the Sahara". The name is more than appropriate given that the study wanted "Give a new air to the anime industry".The filmmaker was inspired by the Caproni Ca.309 Ghibli, a surveillance aircraft that was designed in Italy during World War II.
